End of Year Review 2010/2011
The Sabrecats Stunt Cheerleading Squad has had a fantastic competition season this year. With many new faces to the sport, and many injuries so soon to competitions, hard work, commitment and positivity was essential. We are like one big family, so we worked together and motivated each other during every training session in order to perform to our best and succeed. We took part in three competitions, starting with Future Cheer at Loughborough University. It was the first competition for a lot of the squad and also our two new coaches, so 4th place was a fantastic achievement! Next was ICC University Nationals at Leeds University, our first ever ‘open level’ competition, meaning we were against teams of all different standards. We entered 4 categories and came 8th overall - a great day was had by all and we were very proud of all our performances. Our final competition of the season was UKCA at Manchester Velodrome which we won! It was an amazing way to finish the season and to reward the squad, coaches and captains for all their hard work throughout the year.
It’s not all hard work and no play for us though; we have had many socials to get to know the new girls and have a good laugh together. We love fancy dress and have had themes such as gnomes, golfers, chavs, babies and the good old cheer uniform! We helped out at our Student Union Christmas day, and have even been on holiday to Amsterdam together. It was an amazing week that none of us will forget in a hurry! The Sheffield Sabrecats have worked extremely hard all year, made loads of great friends, improved in leaps and bounds, achieved stunts we never thought were possible, came 1st in a national competition, had some great nights out, an amazing holiday and lots and lots of fun!
The Sabrecats performed at half time of the University Varisty football final match between Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam at Hillsborough football ground - it was a great way to show off our talents, and hopefully encourage people to come and try out in September.
