Study Tips

We know the stress of exams can feel overwhelming, so we’ve listed some simple studying tips to help you achieve your goals and minimise stress.

 

Plan – Write down all the work you have to do and each due date, then divide the work up and write in your calendar how much work to complete each day. This is a great way to keep on track and also reward yourself for reaching your daily goals. This also makes sure you spread studying time evenly to prevent you from cramming loads of work in last minute.

SpaceCreate a clear work space to study where you can organise your paperwork/stationary. Keep your study place separate from your leisure space - this way you can enjoy your time out of studying without associating it with work. Equally, when you are studying this will help you get in the focus zone and make you less likely to 'accidentally' click on netflix and binge watch a series or two.

 

Balance – spending a long time studying in one sitting can backfire and compromise your quality of work – take the time to relax and recharge your batteries when you feel low on energy.

Nourish – make sure you’re eating properly and drinking plenty of water... also get some fresh air regularly to refresh your system.

 

Exercise – exercising is a great way to clear your mind and relieve stress, as well as releasing endorphins to lift your mood.

Sleep – in stressful times it can be tough to get a decent sleep which then makes you more stressed... try to prevent this vicious cycle and get into a routine. Meditation is a good way to unwind and relax, and try not to have caffeinated drinks in the evening.

 

Visualise – remind yourself of the reasons why you are studying so hard.... what you aim to achieve and the feeling you’ll have when all this hard work pays off. Imagine your future self achieving your dreams and motivate yourself to keep going.

 

 

Socialise – don’t isolate yourself from your friends – you may think this will help you focus, but restricting yourself too much makes you more likely to give up completely. Plan to see friends so you have something to look forward to and also share your revision struggles.

 

Time – give yourself plenty of time, over-estimate how long it will take so you have that bit extra if you need it towards the end.

Ask for help – If you are really stuck or don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask your tutor or classmates for help and advice.
