Safety and security

Our tenant’s safety is extremely important to us. Home employs around the clock security teams and we have a dedicated emergency phone line for out of hours.

The majority of our houses have burglar alarms and our apartment blocks have secure door entry systems and CCTV coverage.

Home fit sophisticated fire alarm systems in all our houses and apartments. The fire alarms are regularly tested and each property has an evacuation plan.

Risk Assessment Info

All our houses and apartments have been risk assessed to ensure we are doing everything we can to help our tenants have a safe and enjoyable stay.

All our homes have an up to date ‘Gas Safe’ Certificate, PAT testing certificate and electrical testing certificate.

Rubbish and Cleaning

Students are responsible for cleaning their own houses and apartments. In our apartment blocks our domestic team clean the public areas including the corridors, staircases and lifts.

Students should try and keep on top of the cleaning so it doesn’t become too big a challenge! There have been occasions in the past where the cleaning has got out of control and Home has had to step in. In this instance under the terms of the Tenancy Agreement a clean is arranged and the fee is chargeable to the tenants.

Home encourages students to consider buying environmentally friendly products, each building and house is provided with recycling bins where students can recycle plastics, aluminium, paper, cardboard and glass. There is also a clothes bin in the local area for unwanted garments. See our Green Policy for more information


Home has a full team of experienced tradesmen. If a student finds they have a repair we advise them to log maintenance requests using our website. Their request will then be logged, prioritised and passed a member of our maintenance team. The situation will be rectified as quickly as possible and the student will be notified once the work is complete.

At Home Accommodation we aim to resolve all maintenance issues as quickly and with as little disruption as possible. However there are times when a repair may take longer if materials or specialist contractors are required. In these cases we will notify the students and keep them up to date with the progress of the repair.

Urgent issues such as heat, power and water outages, flooding or infestations, lock changes or security repair following a burglary are attended as a priority.

Although most maintenance works need to be carried out by one of our contractors, there are some straightforward jobs that are a tenant’s responsibility. Please see tenants responsibilities in our important documents section

The Guarantor

All students will need a UK based guarantor. If an international student or unable to provide a UK based guarantor please contact our office and we can help to work around this. The guarantor agrees to undertake the payment of the rent or damages should the student be unable to make payment.

If you are acting as the guarantor you will be required to sign a Guarantor agreement and provide the following documents as proof of ID/address:

  • Valid UK photocard driving licence
  • Utility Bill dated within the last 3 months
